Montenegro Railway Transport is pleased to support this year's 15th edition of Bedem Fest, themed "Green Music, Green Fortress, Green Bedem Fest."
As previously announced, Željeznički prevoz Crne Gore (Montenegro Railway Transport) is pleased to support this year's 15th edition of Bedem Fest, themed "Green Music, Green Fortress, Green Bedem Fest."
With the campaign “ "Train I Choose, It's Totally Cool" ” for a healthier and greener future, Bedem Fest, in collaboration with Montenegro Railway Transport and Sava Insurance Company, is launching “clean energy” with free train journeys featuring low carbon emissions and free entry to Bedem FesT. This is the first time in the festival's history that such an offer is being presented, showcasing an entirely innovative approach to exploring the potential of Bedem Fest. The initiative promotes the connection between people and nature, the fortress, ecology, and the music festival.
Today, on World Environment Day, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between ŽPCG and NGO Pro futuro, the organizers of Bedem Fest, in the ŽPCG premises in Podgorica. This represents an important step in greening Bedem Fest, minimizing environmental impact, making it carbon-neutral, and offering a compelling vision of how the festival industry, entertainment, and environmental awareness can harmoniously coexist. Artists can make a significant contribution to preserving the planet and the sustainability of the festival and music industry by reducing carbon emissions associated with travel. Musicians Darko Mihajlović and Stefan Bjeletić from Nikšić performed on the train route Nikšić-Podgorica and Podgorica-Nikšić today, engaging with their audience and the general public on sustainability and climate change topics, which was received very well by passengers. By sharing their own sustainable travel and train performances, they aim to inspire other musicians and their fans to adopt similar practices.
Considering how harmful music festivals can be to the environment, such as carbon impacts, the campaign "Train I Choose, It's Totally Cool" encourages the use of trains as an environmentally friendly mode of transportation to reduce the carbon footprint. To ensure quick and eco-friendly travel to and from Bedem Fest, in collaboration with NGO Pro futuro and Bedem Fest partners, trains will be provided on the Podgorica-Nikšić route on Friday and Saturday, August 23 and 24, departing at 6:30pm from Podgorica. Additionally, special night trains on the Nikšić-Podgorica route will depart from Nikšić Railway Station at 02:30 AM on August 24 and 25, after Bedem Fest's music program. Thanks to the support of Sava Insurance Company, train travel to Bedem Fest on the specified dates from Podgorica to Nikšić and back will be free.
“Fossil fuel-based transportation emissions are one of the largest contributors to greenhouse gas emissions, negatively affecting air quality. We promote sustainable transport policies, popularize and increase the visibility of Montenegro Railway Transport services, convinced that the cooperation of all our partners with Bedem Fest is a good example of sustainability as a bridge of friendship in corporate green responsibility, culture, protection, preservation, valorization, and promotion of the Bedem Fortress. Inspired by established priorities in cultural development, improving the festival and tourism offerings of Nikšić and Montenegro, and the goals of the National Cultural Development Program 2023-2028, as well as cultural and artistic creativity, the 'Green Bedem Fest' inspires new solutions, impacting firmly established habits and consumption patterns – both our own and others. We will strengthen the capacities of the public in Montenegro and beyond to understand their role in promoting and implementing the green transition in the Western Balkans. Addressing environmental issues is something we all urgently need to tackle if we want to reduce the negative impact on our lives and the lives of future generations. Our intention is to build awareness and commitment to practical ways in which we can all contribute to saving our planet by organizing festivals that will contribute to the implementation of the Green Agenda," said Petar Šundić.
On behalf of ŽPCG, the Memorandum of Cooperation was signed by Dejana Baošić, Assistant Executive Director for Logistics and Commercial Affairs. “ŽPCG, as a socially responsible company focused on sustainable public transport services and green modes of transportation, is pleased to support the 15th edition of Bedem Fest, themed ‘Green Music, Green Fortress, Green Bedem Fest’. We believe it is crucial to constantly awaken citizens' awareness of the importance of environmental conservation, and what better way to do this than through cultural events. It is important for everyone to know that the train travel, as a means of mass public transportation, has the lowest emission of gases harmful to the environment and is an ideal way to travel and enjoy good music while protecting the planet, promoting the connection between people and nature, the fortress, ecology, and the music festival. We are pleased to contribute, through this campaign with Bedem Fest organizers and other partners, to raising awareness among all music lovers that by choosing to travel to the festival by train, they are reducing negative environmental impacts and ensuring their own safety. Traveling to and from the festival by train not only does good for the planet but also avoids traffic jams, allowing passengers to relax and enjoy the music without the hassle of traffic or accident risks. Today, for the first time, we have organized a music program on the train, performed by musicians Stefan Bjeletić and Darko Mihajlović, engaging with themes of sustainability and climate change. We hope to inspire other musicians and their fans to adopt similar practices and encourage all citizens to choose the train because it is totally cool,” stated Dejana Baošić.
